Iowa Notes and Questions

Looking at the Iowa results, the generational differences were enormous on the Democratic side. According to CNN, Obama took 57% of voters 29 or younger and 42% of voters 30-44 years old.

What the results mean to Clinton will depend largely on whether she can recover in NH next week—and how significant the spin will be on finishing 3rd behind Edwards. It’s a huge hit to a campaign machine based on her inevitability.

Edwards gave a great speech. While most coverage discussed Obama’s strong speaking style, Edwards delivered a barnburner. Again, the spin will be more important than the reality, but Edwards has to get his message out with little cash after Iowa.

The Huckabee phenomenon will be the big story this week. Look for some more serious shots, however, at his record in the coming week. Giuliani looks most seriously hurt, no matter how he spins it, since Romney can come back in NH and McCain had left Iowa early.
